The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Sheikh Salman dismissed the protest from the Qatar Football Association (QFA) which took issue with his public criticism of FIFA President Gianni Infantino. While the AFC opposed Infantino's plan to establish a new for-profit entity, arguing that 'football is not a personal possession,' the QFA criticized this move as overstepping boundaries. Salman countered that he has the right and responsibility to represent the views of Asian football according to the AFC charter, thus refuting Qatar's protest. Qatar has officially declared its support for Infantino, putting it in direct conflict with the AFC.
