Healthcare and welfare workers are repeatedly exposed to the suffering of others and experience vicarious trauma, but there are insufficient institutional mechanisms to support them. Vicarious trauma manifests in symptoms similar to PTSD, such as anxiety, numbness, and sleep disturbances, and can shake trust and stability in the long term. However, it is difficult to accurately grasp the situation, and the reality shows a high turnover rate and a strong intention to change jobs. Experts argue that it should not be attributed to individual responsibility, but rather that institutions and the government should establish a sustainable care system through measures such as preventing excessive trauma exposure, activating mental health support programs, and building debriefing and supervision systems.
