The hardline leadership in Iran distrusts the armistice MOU signed with the United States and has focused on strengthening its military power to maximize US war costs. They have expanded the control of the IRGC, appointed veteran personnel to key positions, and accelerated missile and drone production. Moreover, they have broadened the battlefield to the Red Sea following the Hormuz Strait blockade and planned to expand armed clashes with Saudi Arabia by cooperating with the Houthi rebels in Yemen and pro-Iranian armed groups in Iraq. In fact, Iranian-linked forces have been stepping up attacks on Saudi oil facilities and US military bases since last month. These actions by Iran demonstrate serious distrust towards war with the United States and make it difficult for both sides to reach an agreement to end the war soon.
