President Lee Jae-myung's discussion on constitutional amendment while playing golf with lawmakers from the People Power Party has been revealed, creating a chaotic atmosphere within the National Assembly. The opposition party argues that progress in constitutional amendment discussions is difficult unless the possibility of presidential re-election is excluded and demands a clear stance stating "no re-election." Concerns are also rising within the People Power Party that President Lee may have intended to court the opposition lawmakers for political restructuring or a shift in the political landscape before the 2028 general election. At least 200 votes are needed for the passage of the constitutional amendment bill, and depending on the stance of constitutional amendment supporters within the People Power Party, the opposition to the amendment could collapse. In this context, it is highly likely that discussions will proceed through the formation of a special committee on constitutional amendment in the latter half of the National Assembly session.
