Mistakes should be acknowledged, and what needs to be returned should be returned...

Back when I was in elementary school..

Among my school friends there was one from a well-off family

and he had a bicycle..

I wanted to ride it, so I asked him to lend it to me

and he lent it readily..

So I rode that bicycle around having a great time and then went to the arcade..

and since I had no lock I just parked the bicycle in front of the arcade..

But..when I came out after playing the games

ah, would you believe it..the bicycle was gone..

My world went yellow..I went all around the neighborhood

but in the end I couldn't find the bicycle thief..

The next day..

my friend asked for his bicycle back

so I told him, I'm sorry..this and that happened yesterday and I lost the bicycle..

I felt terribly sorry

but maybe because this friend's family was rich, I don't know

he never said anything about paying him back for the bicycle..or buying him a new one..

Given that I still remember it..

I must have felt really sorry too..

and the truth is I couldn't even tell my mother..

I carried that childhood memory with me..

Then in high school..

it must have been around the time the Batman movie was out..

One of my friends brought a toy of the motorcycle Batman rides to school..

Wow..it looked exactly like the one in the movie..

and when you pulled it back and let go, the tape wound up and unwound and it took off at tremendous speed..

Then evening study period came around..

Thinking it over carefully..

it occurred to me that since it was evening study period, there wasn't a single person in the hall..I mean the corridor..

There were classes up to Class 10, so the corridor was extremely long..

and I thought if I pulled that motorcycle back and let it go there it would run brilliantly..

so I borrowed the motorcycle from my friend for a moment, took it to the very end of the corridor

and wound the tape all the way, and it really did glide away..

If I'd done it just once there wouldn't have been any problem..

but it was so fun and exciting

that I must have done it several times over..

Since it's a tape-driven motorcycle, it must have been fairly noisy in the quiet corridor..

Hearing that sound

a teacher came up from the staff room

and I was caught..red-handed..

And of all people it was the Korean language teacher who was famous for being scary..

I was put in the push-up position and had my backside beaten until it burned

and the motorcycle was confiscated..

Never mind the pain..

I felt so terrible because my friend's motorcycle had been taken away..

My friend was on the verge of tears..

and when I asked how much it cost, he said 4,500 won..

At that time..an LP record cost about 2,500 won

so for a student like me that wasn't easy money..

I told my friend..

I'll take responsibility and get it back for you, just wait a little..

and if I can't get it back I'll buy you a new one..

Having made that bold promise..

from the next day on I went to the staff room every day and pleaded with the teacher to give the motorcycle back..

At first it didn't work at all..and on top of that he was the teacher famous for being scary..

so every time I went I just got a knuckle-rap on the head and came back

but after visiting like that for several days

maybe this teacher got fed up too..

because he finally opened the door to conversation, asking why on earth I kept coming..

So I explained..

That motorcycle isn't mine

my friend brought it..

and during evening study I was the only one playing in the corridor, so that friend did nothing wrong..

If you don't give it back, sir

I'll have to buy that motorcycle with my own money

but the price is a bit beyond me and it would be hard..

If you do give the motorcycle back, sir

since I'm the one who did wrong anyway and that friend did nothing wrong

I'll gladly accept any punishment..is what I said to him..

And with that..

he grinned, opened his drawer and gave the motorcycle back..

I carried the motorcycle back to the classroom

and with a ta-da~ I returned it to my friend..

In my childhood I had borrowed a friend's bicycle and lost it

and carried the memory of not fulfilling that responsibility..

That's probably why in high school I pushed the teacher so hard..

If back then..

the teacher hadn't responded to my persistent courtship(?)..

as a last resort I would have told my family and bought that motorcycle for my friend..

but I wouldn't have had the experience of learning that if you do your very best to take responsibility for your own mistakes

someday that door..no, a good solution, opens..

Even in working life

I tend to think a lot that if you push through rationally and logically..and with a headstrong spirit

it works out..

If it hadn't been for that teacher's generosity(?) back then

I would have carried my childhood memory on into my youth..

and I think perhaps even as an adult I might not have been free of that memory..

He was a teacher I was grateful to..

but I can't quite remember his name..

If he'd hit me a bit more I'd definitely remember..

Because I remember the names of all the teachers who hit me a lot..

From elementary school through high school I remember about 80% of my teachers' names..

It's true..

If you happen to meet me next time, try hitting me once..

My ability to take a hit is..just~

But in case my sculpted looks might crack, please avoid the face when you hit me..

[EN] So you ended up single. ^^ I suddenly wondered—how many teachers from childhood could I really call "memorable"... Since I grew up being called a Gangnam fool... and it was a time full of incidents and accidents... I do remember a few teachers. There was one teacher who told me that "a mistake is a mistake, but it's an even bigger mistake to label someone as a problem child by linking that mistake to other things"... Dandae Middle School is right next to Dandae High School... and as a private school, it was a place where teachers rarely got transferred. At most, the only change would be moving from Dandae Middle School to Dandae High School. Given my age now... I assume that teacher has probably retired by now... and I suddenly feel sorry that I never visited them before that happened. ㅜ.ㅜ
