President Yoon Suk-yeol has been placed under a travel ban by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) on suspicion of insurrection and abuse of authority. This is the first time in history that a sitting president has been subject to such a measure, and it was approved by the Ministry of Justice at the request of investigative agencies. President Yoon cannot travel abroad through overseas state visits or other means until the travel ban is lifted. The CIO stated that it directed the application for the travel ban on President Yoon at the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee. Other agencies are known to have also requested the travel ban, but the prosecution and police have not officially confirmed this.
