There are seven figures considered worthy of being called the "fathers of computers". Charles Babbage is known for designing the concept of early mechanical calculating machines such as the Difference Engine and Analytical Engine. Alan Turing, often referred to as the "father of computer science", introduced the concept of the Turing machine which forms the basis of modern computer logic. During World War II, Turing helped break the German Nazi Enigma code with the "bombe" machine. Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron, wrote an algorithm for Babbage's Analytical Engine, considered the first computer program. Other figures who contributed to the development of computers include John Atanasoff, Konrad Zuse, and the ENIAC team.
