It's the era of ten million pets..
Among ten million pets, the most preferred animal is undoubtedly the dog..
They follow people well and are intelligent too..
Although language doesn't work, communication with the owner seems to be possible(?)..
But..
Many people raise pets,
and because of illness or difficulty raising them,
many end up abandoning them as stray dogs..
Shouldn't we implement measures like a pet registration system before it becomes a major social problem..
I'm speaking cautiously..
A few days ago..
I was watching YouTube at home..
By the way, we don't have a TV at home, so I watch on a laptop..
YouTube these days.. has so many ads..
I kept skipping ads on YouTube on my laptop,
and got so annoyed..
so these days I sometimes just watch the ads..
I was watching Urban Fisherman..
and an ad came on..
At that time I was lying down, and since I was too lazy to get up, I just watched the ad..
wondering when it would end.. I stared blankly at it..
Some foreigner appeared.. standing alone in front of the camera with mountains in the background,
talking about something..
and I heard what sounded like "spong.. sdeng.." or something,
so I thought, "Ah.. that's French.." but then..
This ad was incredibly long..
It was so long that I kept staring blankly at the foreigner's face in the ad..
It sounds like they're saying "spong~" but the accent was quite strong..
And their face was closer to Northern European than French..
and listening to it, it didn't seem to be French after all..
I've studied German before, so it's definitely not German..
What language could that be..
I was thinking blankly while watching the ad..
Then..
The person's face didn't look like a dog,
but suddenly I thought of dogs..
There are so many people on Earth..
But the language is different in each country..
Even in our own country, the Jeju dialect is not easy to understand..
But..
How many dogs are there on Earth..
I think dogs probably communicate too..
From a dog's perspective,
all human speech, whether Korean or Indonesian, probably sounds the same..
Similarly, from a human's perspective,
one might think all dog barks sound the same..
but that's probably not exactly the case..
If a dog living in Korea meets a dog living in Northern Europe,
would they be able to communicate..
I suddenly had that thought..
As these thoughts led to one another..
Why do many people keep Jindo dogs these days..
I'm not sure if they're purebred or mixed..
The Jindo dog comes from Korea..
I have no way of knowing, but it seems likely that they would speak Korean dog language..
How difficult must it have been to come to a strange foreign land and struggle with language communication..
I thought..
I myself came to Indonesia and learned Indonesian,
and after almost a year, communication became fairly smooth..
But..
A Jindo dog from Korea..
I learned by interacting with locals and reading books,
but since they're not small dogs, most of them are tied up in the house..
Coming all the way to Indonesia where they can't communicate..
and being tied up in the house only..
I thought if I were in their place, I might go crazy and bite my tongue to death..
How lonely they must be..
They can't even speak Indonesian dog language..
and they're not given the opportunity to learn..
they're probably waiting for their owner all day..
but the owner comes home tired and takes them for one neighborhood walk,
and thinks they've done their duty and then sleeps lazily..
Indeed..
I realized that being a dog is not always fortune..
Many people raise dogs..
If you're going to raise one, I hope you'll raise two or more..
They can keep each other company, and it's good for them..
No matter how much a person loves a dog..
only another dog can truly understand what a dog feels..
As I wrote this,
I think I might have understood too much about what dogs feel today..
