Samsung Electronics research team analyzed sleep data of 190,000 women and found that Korean women sleep an average of 25 minutes less than Western women. They also showed a tendency for the time spent awake during sleep to increase significantly after menopause. Korean women began to experience an increase in nighttime awakenings from their early 30s, experiencing a decline in sleep quality earlier than Western women. This is presumed to be related to social characteristics of Korean society such as long working hours, late bedtimes, and social stress. The research team emphasized the need for improvement efforts, stating that menopausal sleep disorders are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
