It seems like you don't see much of that these days..
When you went to Soekarno-Hatta Airport in the past..
The moment Korean Air or Asiana Airlines arrived
Touts and hustlers would swarm like that..
As you probably know well
The touts mentioned here..
Are people who would safely retrieve your luggage, help you get into the airport, and so on..
Since there was an exchange rate difference, you could do it without spending much money
Get your luggage out safely(?)
Illegally enter inside the airport, meet Korean visitors
And pass through immigration very quickly too, that kind of thing happened often..
Of course, I used those services too..
I thought that was just how Indonesia was, so everyone did it..
But..
When foreign..foreigners' planes arrived
Those touts didn't appear..
It's not certain though..
It was interesting..
When planes from other countries arrived, those touts wouldn't swarm
But only when Korean planes arrived, the touts would swarm like that..
I don't know if it's still like that now
But according to news from a few years ago
I heard that at Cambodia Airport, only Koreans pay taxes..
There are three sections you have to pass through to enter..
1 dollar each time you pass..
A total of 3 dollars, they said..
When someone tried to protest
They were told it's already become customary and they have to pay no matter what..
When they investigated the history..
A Korean had given 5 dollars to go through the airport faster
And after that, it became a custom, they said..
Koreans who have to pay 3 dollars at Cambodia Airport probably curse the Cambodians..
But the origin of it..
The one who started committing the illegal act was a Korean..
Indonesia doesn't seem much different..
Touts only appear for Korean planes..
What does it mean..?
It means they've found their mark..
Instead of committing illegal acts themselves..the Koreans are the nation that pays money
That's what the Indonesians figured out..
City Fishermen Alaska episode..
It's very interesting..
I think I've seen it over 10 times..
I woke up early yesterday and was watching the Alaska episode..
They went out to catch a fish called Eloai..
This Eloai fish has a small population and is designated as a protected species..
So if one person catches one, you can't fish anymore..
All the cast members caught one
But this Mr. Kyung-gyou didn't catch an Eloai..
Instead, he caught a fish that looked a bit strange..
Since he didn't catch an Eloai, he was about to cast his line again
The American steward on the boat took his fishing rod..
It turned out..
The fish Mr. Kyung-gyou caught was also a rare species, so you can only catch one..
So they said they can't fish anymore today..
Mr. Kyung-gyou and the crew accepted what the Americans said and quit fishing..
Here..
Something came to mind..
They boarded a boat for 4 hours.. to catch Eloai..
But Mr. Kyung-gyou didn't catch any..
Since they boarded for 4 hours, it must be the open sea..
They came all the way from Korea to Alaska..and then boarded a boat for 4 hours there
And because of legal issues they couldn't fish anymore, they said..
If that place wasn't America
But Costa Rica or Indonesia
Would the crew and Mr. Kyung-gyou have agreed so easily..is what crossed my mind..
Wouldn't they have said "we'll pay you more, let us catch"..?
After going there with expensive production costs
It doesn't seem like a problem to just give a bit more in tips..
Many people commit illegal acts and mistake it for ability..
I'm the same way too..
But..what's interesting is..
First they commit illegal acts..and plant the idea that "Koreans are that kind of people"
And then instead curse the Indonesians..the Cambodians..
Whether it's rotten or whatever..
Despite being treated as easy marks by the locals..
We're quite amused, aren't we..?
