The number of heat illness cases in Seoul from last May to this month decreased by 39.5% compared to the same period last year. This is the result of Seoul's active heat wave response policies, such as operating more than 4,000 heat relief centers, installing 5,000 shade awnings, and expanding outdoor rest areas such as 'Donghaeng Shelter' and 'Happy Place'. In addition, Seoul is intensively managing over 63,000 elderly people and chronic disease patients who are at high risk, and social workers are checking their health status through safety calls and direct visits to protect vulnerable groups. Seoul plans to strengthen its response system to minimize damage to citizens in preparation for the prolonged heat wave.
