I'm also a bit conservative when it comes to relationships between men and women..
The president of the company I used to work at was incredibly conservative..
To begin with, aside from his position as president, he also held the position of church elder..
He didn't drink alcohol at all,
and he even went to dawn prayer every single day..
He was that kind of person..
When I first joined the company..
He visited the business I was in charge of and said to me,
when hiring people..
At the time, the ratio of men to women was about 7:3..
He gave the instruction to never, ever hire pretty women..
The reason was that if a pretty woman were hired,
since it's a place where young men and women work together,
various incidents(?) might happen or people couldn't concentrate on their work.. so there was a high chance of defects occurring..
One day he visited the business I was at,
and after looking around the site,
he looked at me and said this..
' A few over there have pretty faces, why did you hire them..? '
When I looked toward where the president was pointing,
there wasn't a single pretty woman,
but since the president said they were pretty..
' Yes.. at the next contract, I won't renew and will let them go..'
is what I said to him at one point..
I figured it out right away..
Ah.. the president has quite low standards..
So.. I stopped hiring women with above-average looks altogether..
and the very first condition I looked at when hiring,
in the case of women, became their appearance..
After that, he must have been satisfied, because he no longer complained..
But the problem is..
even women who aren't pretty have an eye for people, don't they..
When I go out to the site,
their heads turn toward me almost like robots..
Their heads turn following my movements,
but there's a limit to how far a person's neck can turn, right..
Sometimes because of women trying to overcome that limit, I'd hear a cracking sound..
and then, with their necks turned as far as possible, after that their eyes would turn..
Indonesians have dark skin and big eyes, right..
When they turn their eyes as far as possible, a lot of the whites of their eyes get exposed,
and when too many women suddenly expose the whites of their eyes,
you know how when a lot of snow piles up it's blinding.. I get a feeling similar to that..
Anyway.. is there any way the work would get done properly..
Defects kept pouring out and complaints rained down from our clients,
and the president would get angry asking why these defects were happening
and told me to prepare a countermeasure report..
it was really awkward..
On the countermeasure report,
I couldn't write that it was because I'm too handsome..
but I also couldn't write a lie..
So for a while I stopped going out to the site altogether,
and then the defects stopped occurring..
People all seem to be the same..
When a pretty woman passes by, men's heads and eyes turn on their own..
The conservative president had figured that out in advance..
But he seems to have overlooked that even an ugly woman, when a handsome man passes by,
her head and eyes turn too..
He seems to have made that mistake because he only looked and thought from a man's perspective..
If the president had had a slightly broader view..
that is, if he had had the vision to think from a woman's perspective too,
I probably wouldn't have gotten hired at that company..
A pleasant appearance..
To others it might be regarded as a blessing,
but sometimes it comes as a disaster..
I wonder if there's anyone who can understand..
