Long-term cases have been concentrated in police stations across the country for more than three months, with 46,793 cases. In particular, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency accounts for 35.6% of all long-term cases. This is because many high-difficulty cases involving businesses, finance, and politics occur in Seoul. With the revised Criminal Procedure Act coming into effect next month, it is expected that the workload of supplementary investigations by the police will increase, and the problem of shortage of investigative personnel is expected to worsen. Accordingly, the National Police Agency has prepared measures to strengthen its investigative capabilities, such as deploying about 2,000 additional investigators in the latter half of the year and expanding incentives for those working in investigative departments.
