After a 72-year hiatus, the US Women's Professional Baseball League (WPBL) opens with Korean women's baseball ace Kim La-kyung taking the mound as the starting pitcher for the New York Heights. The WPBL features four teams and includes Korean players such as Kim Hyun-ah and Park Joo-ah alongside Kim La-kyung. Kim La-kyung has represented Korean women's baseball since her middle school days and has consistently continued her athletic career even after undergoing elbow surgery. WPBL games will be held at Robbie Roberts Stadium, with each team playing 15 regular season innings over seven innings before advancing to the postseason to determine the champion. Brit Afgar, a player with a congenital right-hand disability, is also attracting attention.
