Gangwon Province has designated 445 areas as potential disaster zones due to the increasing risk of landslides and flooding caused by heavy downpours and typhoons. Among them, landslide-prone areas accounted for the most at 107 locations, followed by 76 roads susceptible to flooding. Although Gangwon Province inspected over 210,000 facilities vulnerable to heavy rainfall, such as rain gutters and sewers, the installation rate of manhole fall prevention facilities was only 38%, raising concerns about pedestrian safety accidents. Residents in flood-prone areas express anxiety and fear towards summer torrential downpours. Gangwon Province plans to establish a preemptive response system focused on field operations with the goal of zero casualties.
