The Yoon Suk-yeol administration's customs and prosecution are facing controversy over their failure to properly respond to a large-scale methamphetamine smuggling operation by a Malaysian drug organization. From January to February 2023, the Malaysian drug organization smuggled up to 111kg of methamphetamine through Incheon and Gimhae airports in a total of 12 attempts. Although customs identified 12 drug organization members on February 15 and registered them in the 'Alertme' system, some entered the country without being stopped after arrival. The prosecution is also under suspicion for failing to conduct additional investigations despite obtaining information about drug organization members from the vice boss's notebook. This case raises allegations of dereliction of duty by customs and prosecution, demonstrating the need for stronger responses in punishing drug smugglers.
