The National Pension Insurance Premium Support Project aims to strengthen the safety net for vulnerable groups in old age, but there are serious disparities in support periods and amounts by occupation. Farmers and fishermen can receive national pension support without any restrictions, while artists can receive up to 12 months and domestic workers and Durunuri (a type of traditional Korean laborer) can receive up to 36 months. In addition, the average monthly support amount also varies greatly depending on the occupation, with a 3.4-fold difference between Durunuri and artists. These disparities have arisen because the projects are operated as individual welfare programs by each ministry. There is also a problem that special types of workers receive employment insurance support but are excluded from national pension support.
