Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said that the escalator had been inspected twice and that a new captioning booth had been set up to support President Trump's speech smoothly. Last year, President Trump called the sudden stop of the UN headquarters escalator "sabotage" and demanded an investigation. The UN explained that this was caused by a video recording staff member of the US delegation accidentally touching the emergency stop safety device.
