Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok argued that President Lee Jae-myung should clearly deny his intention to seek re-election and enter into full-fledged discussions on constitutional amendment. Kim emphasized the need to enshrine the spirit of May 18th and the Buma Movement in the preamble of the Constitution, and to promote power structure reforms and people's livelihood amendments through national consensus. The Constitutional Amendment Promotion Committee set a goal of putting the amendment bill to a national referendum by the first half of next year and urged the swift formation of a special committee on constitutional amendment in the National Assembly. Kim Tae-yeon, head of the committee, expressed his expectation that the People Power Party would participate in discussions on constitutional amendment after resolving the issue of re-election.
