Google has released WeatherNext 3, the latest artificial intelligence (AI) model for predicting global weather that is claimed to be the most accurate. The advantage of WeatherNext 3 lies in its ability to learn real-time observation data directly from geostationary satellites and weather stations, without relying entirely on the results of conventional numerical weather prediction (NWP) models. This allows WeatherNext 3 to provide more timely and localized predictions, especially for rapidly changing weather events. Compared to its predecessor, WeatherNext 3 can predict global weather every hour with five times sharper resolution. The capabilities of WeatherNext 3 have been recognized through independent Operational WeatherBench evaluations, where the model ranked first.
