Tokuji Yunohara, a former honorary professor at Asahikawa Medical University in Japan, won the Ig Nobel Prize in Medicine for his research on how to blow your nose effectively. According to the study results published in 1977, blowing one nostril at a time for a longer duration is more effective for mucus discharge than blowing both nostrils simultaneously. The study also concluded that while blowing your nose forcefully can cause pressure changes in the ears, it is unlikely to cause middle ear infections.
