The Lee Jae-myung administration has implemented a comprehensive military personnel reshuffle that completely replaces the military leadership during the December 3 emergency martial law. Seven active four-star generals will retire, and seven active three-star generals will be promoted to form the new military leadership. This reshuffle aims to replace the previous leadership that faced accountability issues during the emergency martial law, thereby enhancing military credibility and promoting organizational stability. General Chin Young-seung, former Strategic Commander, has been designated as the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, while General Kim Kyu-ha, Missile Strategy Commander, is designated as the new Army Chief of Staff. Admiral Kang Dong-gil, head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Military Support Headquarters, is scheduled to become Navy Chief of Staff, and General Sohn Seok-rak, Air Force Education Commander, is appointed as Air Force Chief of Staff. The Defense Ministry emphasized that this personnel reshuffle will simultaneously achieve military personnel renewal and organizational stabilization.
