The People Power Party is discussing a proposal to change the method of electing its party cooperation committee chairperson to a direct election system. The previous Supreme Council failed to reach a conclusion due to opposition from lawmakers, and Representative Jang Dong-hyeok has left open the possibility of adjusting the timing and speed. Within the party, there are suggestions to postpone discussions until after Chuseok (Korean harvest festival) considering the political situation, or to introduce direct elections only in some regions. A plan to partially apply the direct election system to about 30 "thought-out cooperation committees" that currently do not have a chairperson is also under consideration.
