As the investigative power of the police has been expanded, there have been calls to introduce a National Assembly personnel hearing in the process of appointing the head of the National Investigation Headquarters. Rep. Lee Sang-sik of the Democratic Party proposed the '3 Acts for Introducing Personnel Hearings for the Head of the National Investigation Headquarters' for this purpose. This bill includes the content that the head of the National Investigation Headquarters should be considered as a senior superintendent and undergo a personnel hearing in the National Assembly. The purpose of introducing this system is to secure democratic legitimacy and enhance public trust in response to the strengthening of police investigative power.
