17-year-old pianist Sehyeon Kim will release his debut album next month after winning the Long-Thibaud International Competition in France last year. The album includes Chopin's 12 Etudes and Nocturnes, as well as "After Dreaming," a vocal piece by Faure arranged by Kim Sehyeon himself. Kim Sehyeon said that he has felt more at ease in music since the competition and wants to explore the works of Austrian and German composers in the future. He is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in English literature at Harvard University and a master's degree in piano performance at the New England Conservatory of Music. He models his Chopin performances after those of his teachers, Dang Thai Son, Artur Rubinstein, and Alfred Cortot. Kim Sehyeon emphasizes "storytelling" as the common ground between music and literature and adds that he also gains poetic inspiration through his performances.
