Cases of desertion are increasing among Ukrainian soldiers undergoing military training in Germany. Many young soldiers are refusing to be deployed to the war through forced conscription, and abuse during the training process is also becoming a cause of desertion. Deserters are not recognized as refugees and it is difficult for them to obtain official residence permits in Germany, but there is a possibility that they can temporarily reside through the asylum procedure. In Ukraine, deserters can be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison.
