In the Democratic Party of Korea leadership election primary, candidate Kim Min-seok won the Jeju and Incheon regional primaries, defeating candidates Jeong Cheong-rae and Song Young-gil. Candidate Kim received 47.75% of the vote, leading candidate Jeong (42.08%) by 5.67 percentage points. However, in terms of cumulative vote share, candidate Kim (45.42%) and candidate Jeong (44.56%) are engaged in a close race within 1 percentage point. This party convention is the first to introduce the one-person, one-vote system, and only the results of the regional primary voting by rights-holding party members will be made public. The results of the delegates' and national votes will be announced at the party convention to be held in Daejeon on the 17th. The party leader election is conducted through a preferential voting system, and if no candidate receives a majority of the votes, the second-place votes of the lowest-ranked candidates, excluding the top two, are added up to determine the final winner.
