Mudflats on the southwest coast of Korea are expected to be registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee will decide whether to register 'Korean Mudflats' in two stages today in Busan, and received a registration recommendation evaluation from IUCN. With this expansion registration, the mudflats of Seosan, Yeosu, Goheung, and Muan will be added, along with the existing mudflats of Seocheon, Gochang, Shinan, Boseong-Suncheon, for a total of 7 regions. Korea's mudflats are an important ecosystem where various organisms, including endangered migratory birds, inhabit, and serve as a stopover point for migratory bird routes connecting East Asia and Oceania.
