The Democratic Party of Korea endorsed a bill to amend the Criminal Procedure Act, which abolishes the prosecution's supplementary investigative power and strengthens victim protection. The amendment establishes a dedicated department within the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to conduct supplementary investigations into seven major crimes, including child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual offenses against vulnerable individuals in society. It also introduces new rights for victims, such as the right to submit opinions and materials, and mandates cooperation between special judicial police (SJP) and prosecutors during investigations. The Democratic Party anticipates that the amended bill will be processed in the plenary session as early as the 30th after review by the Judiciary Committee.
