Last month, the number of deaths in Germany increased by 5,753 (31.6%) compared to the average year due to a heat wave. According to data from the German Federal Statistical Office, a total of 23,932 people died between July 22nd and 28th, which is significantly higher than the average number of deaths during the same period. Experts analyze that the heat wave was the main cause of the increase in deaths without other factors. The WHO Regional Director for Europe warned that heat waves are recurring crises and are largely preventable.
