A while ago, an instructor told me
that for pedaling, I should push-pull-lift and exert force
and to exert force fully throughout the entire pedal rotation, so I've been
riding like that for a long time.
But recently when I thought about it, when I exert force to push and pull the right foot
if the left foot isn't synced with the rhythm
the left foot has to exert so much force that it cancels out the right foot's pushing force, and
isn't that similar to strength training where you exert force even in the negative phase (not just when lifting the dumbbell, but also when lowering it)? That's what I realized.
So I just exerted force only in the core and removed force from my legs
and thinking about it as rotating the crankshaft like turning a millstone
when I focused only on the rotation, guess what...
my legs got rest time (before, I was continuously pushing, pulling, lifting and exerting force)
pedaling became so much lighter and I keep setting new PRs;;
I wonder if that's what all those experts meant when they said
'rotate the pedal'... hehe
