I'm a middle school student who recently posted a photo of a fixed gear bike with no brakes
Initially, I posted out of simple curiosity about what others would think, since my bike's geometry was more aggressive than I expected. However, when people saw that my bike, which was the subject(?) of that post, was a fixed gear bike with no brakes, many critical comments were posted. I tried to explain by posting several replies, but even those replies received critical comments. So let me first clearly convey my position. However, if you think there are still issues or have questions, please feel free to comment and I will reply as sincerely as possible
First, I apologize for posting a photo of a fixed gear bike with no brakes, which has a negative image among Dorsa members, and creating room for misunderstanding. To explain my position:
First, since I'm preparing to be a track cyclist, I mainly ride on the velodrome and velodrome surfaces. The photo I posted was just taken in front of my house right after assembling the bike. Also, the bike is very new, and since I bought it during exam period, I haven't ridden it on public roads at all. I've only ridden it on the velodrome except for when I took the first photo and visited the bike shop.
Second, I originally had no intention of adding brakes. After seeing my previous post, some of you might have thought, "Wouldn't just posting a photo with brakes solve the problem?" or "Aren't you just making excuses when you don't even have a brake adapter?" I have a brake adapter left over from when I rode a different track bike before, and I kept it thinking I would install it later if I go out with the track bike. However, since I got a separate road bike, I now ride the road bike when going out, and I only ride the track bike on the velodrome and velodrome surfaces, so I don't plan to add brakes in the future.
That's my position, and before I posted the previous post, I didn't know that the perception of fixed gear bikes with no brakes was so negative. And even when I kept explaining in replies that I'm preparing to be an athlete and don't ride on public roads, many people didn't pay attention and criticized me just by seeing that the bike in the photo had no brakes. Of course, there were many kind people, and there was one person who read my post and defended me. So in conclusion, what I want to say is that even though most Dorsa members are adults, many of them criticized without properly understanding the situation. I want to tell those people to first understand and then speak their mind, but those people won't even read this post to the end. So I hope we can all work together to create a culture where we understand first and then speak our minds
Thank you for reading this long post
