On September 21st, a suspected landmine explosion occurred during a Korean military route-clearing operation in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) west of Paju City, Gyeonggi Province. Two soldiers sustained serious injuries. The incident is suspected to have occurred in an area where North Korean troops are believed to have laid mines south of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL). The battalion commander and a non-commissioned officer were seriously injured in the explosion. The military sent evidence to the National Forensic Service for analysis and plans to conduct a joint investigation with the UN Command at the accident site. It is currently unclear whether the mine was North Korean or South Korean, and the possibility of a lost mine along the river has also been raised.
