The Indonesian government plans to develop gasoline with a mixture of ethanol up to 50% (E50) as an alternative energy source and reduce dependence on fuel oil imports. This E50 program is expected to emulate the success of the Biodiesel 50% (B50) program which has suppressed solar imports. The government is optimistic that the implementation of E50 will make Indonesia free from importing finished gasoline, create new jobs, and drive regional economic growth. The implementation plan for E50 will be carried out in stages, starting with E10 in 2027, followed by E20 in 2028, and finally reaching E50. The government emphasizes the importance of aligning this program with the domestic bioethanol industry so that Indonesia does not rely on ethanol imports.
