President Lee Jae-myung pointed out the loopholes in social security systems such as national pension and basic pension, and ordered a review based on the principle of fairness. The Ministry of Health and Welfare has since conducted an all-round screening of major social security systems, including emergency welfare, national pension, basic pension, health insurance, and long-term care insurance for the elderly. In particular, there is a high possibility that the problem of insufficient residency requirements for basic pensions will be improved, and efforts are being made to prevent abuse of the arrears payment system in national pensions. However, concerns remain that excluding foreigners or leading to hatred could undermine the universal principle of social security systems, making precise system design crucial.
