Korean tofu and muk (Korean gelatin) manufacturers are facing difficulties due to a shortage of imported soybeans for processing before Chuseok. The government said that the supply of imported soybeans for processing this year is 30,000 tons short of industry needs, and announced that it will maintain the average annual supply level through discounts on domestic soybeans and the supply of 13,000 tons of imported soybeans from government stockpiles. Domestic soybeans are priced at 1,600 won per kg, with 21,000 tons currently allocated, which is 200 won more expensive than imported soybean prices. The government is promoting policies to expand domestic soybean production and plans to coordinate policy methods through consultations with the industry.
