The South Korean government is dispatching a joint response team headed by Kim Jin-ah, Second Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to address employment fraud, kidnapping, and unlawful detention crimes targeting South Koreans occurring in Cambodia. During this visit, the team plans to discuss with Cambodian authorities cooperation in the investigation of the torture death of a South Korean university student in August, autopsy procedures, and the repatriation of remains. Additionally, the government plans to prioritize the repatriation of those among the 63 detained South Koreans who have arrest warrants issued against them, and is considering deploying a chartered aircraft. With the position of ambassador to Cambodia currently vacant, former ambassador to Lebanon Park Il will be dispatched to oversee the operations of the local embassy.
