The Serious Crime Investigation Agency (SCIA) has selected four candidates for its first director: lawyers Kim Kwan-jung, Kim Ji-yong, and Moon Hong-ju, and Professor Lee Yoon-jae of Myongji University. Three of the candidates are former prosecutors, while one is a former judge with experience as a special prosecutor. The candidates were selected based on their understanding of the SCIA's founding principles and role, and it appears that the intention was to select someone who understands prosecutorial work and organizational culture well for organizational stability. However, concerns about the possibility of a 'second prosecution office' are also being raised. Minister of Administration and Security Yoon Ho-jung plans to recommend one of the four candidates to President Lee Jae-myung, and the candidate will be finally appointed after passing the National Assembly personnel hearing.
