A recent landslide on the Nepal-China border has resulted in casualties. This disaster is believed to be caused by the melting of glaciers in the Changtang Plateau due to global warming, leading to instability. Over the past 60 years, the glacier area on the Changtang Plateau has decreased by approximately 24%, and about 7,000 small glaciers have disappeared. However, some experts suggest that bedrock collapse may have been the primary cause, arguing that the instability of the glaciers was unlikely to be the main factor in the initial collapse. This incident has heightened concerns that glacier disasters due to global warming could become more frequent in the future.
