The Lee Jae-myeong government has confirmed an organizational restructuring plan that abolishes the Prosecutor General's Office and divides its functions into the Public Prosecution Office and the Serious Crime Investigation Agency (SCIA). The Public Prosecution Office will be placed under the Ministry of Justice, while the SCIA will be established under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, with the SCIA to be implemented starting next September. The Ministry of Economy and Finance will be renamed the Ministry of Finance and Economy, with its budget and fiscal functions transferred to the newly established Planning and Budget Office under the Office of the Prime Minister. Additionally, the Ministry of Environment will be reorganized and expanded into the Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy, taking on energy policy responsibilities as well.
