A research team from Queensland University of Technology in Australia has identified a link between sugary soft drink consumption and depression risk. According to the study, people who drink more than 7 sugary soft drinks per week have nearly 5 times higher risk of developing depression. This occurs because excessive consumption of soft drinks disrupts the dopamine system and causes abnormalities in serotonin secretion, thereby reducing the ability to manage stress. In contrast, people who consume vegetables 5 or more times per day show lower probability of experiencing psychological distress.
