OpenAI's generative AI service 'ChatGPT' has surpassed 20 million app users in Korea.
WiseApp·Retail, an app & payment data analysis solution, announced on the 2nd that as of August, based on a sample survey of Korean smartphone users (Android+iOS), ChatGPT app monthly active users (MAU) reached 20.31 million, marking an all-time high.
This figure is about five times higher than the 4.07 million users in the same month last year and accounts for approximately 40% of Korea's 51.2 million smartphone users. ChatGPT surpassed 10 million users earlier this year after its new image generation feature gained popularity.
The gender ratio of ChatGPT app users was similar, with males accounting for 50.1% and females for 49.9%. By age group, the distribution was as follows: under 20 years old (13.6%), 20s (24.2%), 30s (22.0%), 40s (22.4%), 50s (12.6%), and 60 years or older (5.2%). Notably, users aged from their 20s to 40s accounted for approximately 70% of the total users, indicating they are the main user group.
