A former police officer in Jeju who is embroiled in a divorce lawsuit has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife. The suspect was already facing trial for assaulting and imprisoning the victim last year, and there are suspicions that he committed the murder out of revenge ahead of the final verdict scheduled for September. Police judged that the suspect, who had been reported missing in Seoul, would come looking for his estranged wife, and they searched her residence in Jeju, where they discovered the victim's body. The suspect has been arrested on charges of retaliatory murder under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, special property damage, special intrusion into a dwelling, and violation of the Domestic Violence Penal Code.
