The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has decided to revise the criteria related to player age. Controversy arose over whether former manager Seung-yeop Lee registered his lunar birthday with the KBO during Kim Do-young's challenge to become the youngest player to hit 40 home runs, raising questions about the standards for calculating birthdate records. The KBO has decided to calculate official records based on the KBO registration birthdate until this season, without separately recognizing the Gregorian calendar and lunar calendar, leap years, etc. However, the KBO plans to re-examine the overall criteria after the end of the season, including age record notation methods and birthplace notation. Currently, the KBO expresses age in the format 'XX years XX months XX days,' while MLB calculates it in days with the format 'XX years XX days.' There is also a need for measures to improve accuracy as there are cases where foreign players have different information registered than their actual birthdates. The KBO plans to use this opportunity to improve related criteria in order to enhance the fairness and reliability of records and increase the value of KBO league records.
