Japanese sculptor and installation artist Yayoi Kusama has died at the age of 97. Kusama became famous for using water droplets and net patterns in her works, inspired by hallucinations she experienced as a child. She was particularly well-known for her large pumpkin sculptures and was also known as the "Queen of Happenings". Kusama represented Japan alone at the Venice Biennale in 1993 and held retrospective exhibitions at renowned art museums in Europe and the United States. Her achievements were recognized with awards such as the French Order of Arts and Letters, the Japanese Cultural Merit Award, and the Japanese Order of Culture.
