Hong Ik-pyo, Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs at the Cheong Wa Dae, pointed out that the process of nominating Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae as a Supreme Court Justice candidate is different from existing practices and expressed sympathy for the possibility of infringement on the President's appointment power. Jo Bae-sook, a lawmaker of the People Power Party, criticized it as a problem because the candidate that the Cheong Wa Dae and the ruling party want was not nominated, but Hong refuted it. Regarding the written nomination of Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae, Hong Ik-pyo said that it is inappropriate to evaluate or discuss each case individually. Jo Bae-sook criticized Kim Min-seok's remarks as inappropriate and against national etiquette, arguing that there is no problem with written nominations and that it is a destruction of the rule of law. He advised Kim Min-seok, who is making such claims, to study the Constitution.
