The heat wave and drought that have hit Europe are causing large-scale wildfires, and in the process, unexploded ordnance from World War I and II is being exposed. There have been reports of explosions of exposed unexploded ordnance in France, Germany, Belgium, and other countries. In particular, in the Liege province of Belgium, where the Battle of the Bulge took place in the past, unexploded ordnance has been discovered, and emergency response measures are being taken. Concerns are growing that the phenomenon of relics from past wars reappearing will increase as climate change dries up the land and wildfires occur. The drought is also drying up major rivers in Europe, causing warships, military vehicles, and shells from World War II to surface.
