The Jeju Police's mishandling of missing person cases is becoming controversial. Jeju Police Sergeant A was urgently arrested on suspicion of falsely concluding missing person reports, including that of Ms. Jang Miran. Sergeant A falsely claimed to have contacted the missing person after receiving the report and closed the case. In Ms. Jang's case, he also deleted data from the missing person profiling system. This incident has exposed problems with the handling of adult missing person cases. Police classify them as 'runaways,' making systematic investigation difficult, and case closures can occur based on the autonomous judgment of the officer in charge. The National Police Agency is working to improve the procedure for lifting missing person status.
