The tomb of Joseon King Danjong, Yeongwol Jangneung, was built in the form of a royal tomb, and its main stone objects were made of black cloud granite quarried from the Songhaksan area in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province. According to contemporary records, suitable stones were not found in Yeongwol, so the Jeongam area in Bukmyeon, Jecheon was selected as an alternative. Researchers confirmed that Songhaksan was a stone supply site based on the fact that there were many granite quarries in the Songhaksan area in the past and that the composition of black cloud granite quarried from Songhaksan is the same as that of the stone objects in Yeongwol Jangneung. This study is a meaningful case that revealed the origin of the stones used in Yeongwol Jangneung through historical records and scientific analysis.
