The Gyeonggi South Provincial Police Agency referred a teenager, Mr. A, to the prosecution on charges of violating the Act on Punishment of Sexual Crimes for allegedly creating and distributing deepfake pornography using photos of female classmates on social media. Mr. A is accused of synthesizing images of about 20 female students from last year with other videos to create pornographic content and posting it on SNS in a way that exposed it to an unspecified number of people. The account operated by Mr. A had been reported to other police stations in the past, but the case was handled as a pending case due to difficulties in identifying the suspect. The Gyeonggi South Provincial Police Agency identified Mr. A as a suspect through additional reports and proceeded with the investigation.
